Frequently Asked Questions
What Is a Social Adult Day Program?
A social adult day program, such as Bright Horizons, provides a secure environment for seniors to socialize with others and participate in interesting and stimulating activities. Seniors who socialize with others often become less isolated and more engaged with family members.
Caregivers and their families also receive respite from daily caregiving duties. Most importantly, social adult day programs enable older adults to remain in their homes for as long as possible with a higher level of independence.
How Does a Social Model Differ from a Medical Model?
In a social model, medical services are not provided, and there are no medical personnel on-site. Social programs do not administer medication, but we can prompt a member take the appropriate medication at the correct time. In the event of an emergency, a social program will call 911.
My mom has Alzheimer’s Disease, can she attend Bright Horizons?
Yes, we work closely with the Alzheimer’s Association to ensure that our sites meet the needs of members with Alzheimer’s Disease or other dementia related diseases.
Do you have to live in Colonie to attend Bright Horizons?
No, you do not have to live in Colonie to join.
What are the days and hours of the program?
We are open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm.
What is the cost of attending Bright Horizons?
The cost is $35/day. This includes breakfast, lunch and a snack, fun activities and great friendships!
How do you become a member?
Contact the Program Director at (518) 459-2857, ext. 322 and an information packet can be sent to you. You can also set up a visit to tour either location.
Does a member have to attend 5 days a week?
No. Although Bright Horizons is open Monday through Friday, members do not have to attend all 5 days. Families determine a head of time what days of the week they wish to attend, with a schedule that best fits their needs. Often our members start out with just a day or two a week, but soon they find they miss their friends and the fun, increasing attendance to 5 days a week.
I would like to attend more, but I am concerned about the cost. Is there any financial assistance? Yes. Bright Horizons has a variety of financial assistance options to assist those who need help. Please contact Bright Horizons at (518) 459-2857 x322 for more information.
Do you provide transportation?
Colonie Senior Service Centers, Inc provides door to door service for those members living in the Town of Colonie, for only a suggested contribution. If you do not live in this area, call Bright Horizons, at 518-459-2857 x 322, for other options that are available to you.
